Introduction
In the premium beverage sector, packaging is not just a container, but an integral part of the product experience.
In the case of Gin “Larienne” – London Dry Gin , distilled and bottled by Cillario&Marazzi Spirits Co. for Villa Lario Resort, the objective was clear: to create a label capable of enhancing the product through transparency, elegance, materiality and visual depth.
To achieve this result, a specific technical solution was chosen: the double-sided label .
Villa Lario Resort: the company
Villa Lario Resort is a five-star boutique hotel overlooking Lake Como, in Mandello del Lario, characterized by an exclusive location and a strong focus on design, hospitality, and experience.
Every element, from the architecture to the products offered, is designed to convey elegance, attention to detail, and a distinctive visual identity.
The London Dry Gin “Larienne” It was created to celebrate the resort's tenth anniversary. For this occasion, the owners dedicated this gin to their resort—and Lake Como—with its label depicting a female face, nestled among the lake's delicate shores.
Customer requests
For this project, the need was not to create a label for a “simple” beverage product.
The client was looking for a solution that was able to:
enhance the transparency of the bottle
create a distinctive and recognizable visual effect, with the color of the label recalling the blue of the lake
convey a premium image in line with the location
communicate the quality of the product, with a “Soft Touch” finish
In other words, the label had to become part of the product's design and quality.
The project
Materials used
To achieve the desired effect, the printing was done digitally, on a white and a transparent plastic material, which were then coupled, to give the impression of printing "on the sticker" of the label.
Below you can find some photos of the project:

How double-sided labels are made
To understand the value of the “Larienne” project, it is useful to understand how double-sided labels work technically.
They are a particular type of adhesive label designed to be read from two perspectives:
frontally
through the container
Unlike traditional labels, which communicate on only one side, this solution exploits the transparency of the packaging to create a second visual layer.
The underlying technical principle is reverse (mirror) printing .
In the case of the “ Larienne ” Gin:
the graphic was printed on the front of the material
the internal graphics were printed in a mirrored way on transparent material
This allows you to obtain a correct and readable image when looking at the bottle from the outside.
Why is it different from a traditional label?
Compared to a standard label:
it doesn't cover the product, but enhances it
It does not communicate on a single level, but on two levels
requires more advanced graphic and technical design
In the “ Larienne ” project, this difference is what made it possible to obtain a distinctive visual effect without adding external elements to the packaging.
Design and finishing
In addition to the aesthetic impact, the design required a precise technical approach typical of double-sided labels.
In particular:
The graphics were developed considering reading from two perspectives , frontal and through the glass
The design has been simplified to ensure clarity even in the presence of reflections and variations in light
This type of design requires taking into account not only the label, but the entire system:
color of the liquid
bottle shape
It is precisely the interaction between these elements that determines the final result.
The customer chose to add a further touch of elegance and texture by choosing a “Soft Touch” matte plastic finish.
Why choose a double-sided label?
Compared to a traditional label, the double-sided solution allowed for a more coherent integration of graphics and product.
This approach is particularly effective in contexts where:
the product has a premium positioning
the content (as in the case of a gin) is part of the visual experience
differentiation comes through design details
Printing challenges faced
Managing reverse printing required attention to the correct inversion of graphic elements to ensure readability and visual consistency.
Producing a double-sided label requires precise control of several technical aspects.
In this project the main challenges were:
Reverse print alignment : the internal graphics had to be perfectly legible once applied.
Transparency management : It was essential to avoid optical distortions due to the glass and the liquid.
Balance between aesthetics and readability : a design that was too complex would have compromised the final effect.
Integration with the shape of the bottle : the geometry of the container directly influences the visual perception of the label.
Conclusions
The “Larienne” Gin project demonstrates how a label can become a strategic element in packaging.
Not only to communicate information, but to enhance the product, create a distinctive visual experience and strengthen its premium positioning.
The use of double-sided labels, if designed correctly, allows you to exploit the transparency of the packaging, transforming it into a competitive advantage.
As an industrial label manufacturer, we support companies in developing technical solutions that go beyond printing to build a product's identity.
